Tattered shades, filthy rugs, and mouse droppings...

I woke up at 4:30 AM and could not return to the bliss of sleep. This was to be my first day at this school – and I was unable to sleep! Why I let 7-year-olds get me in this state, I don’t know.

My father dropped me off at the corner of the school an hour before classes started. I walked around and looked at the student work. I think what really disturbed me was the dreariness of the school. It was so dark and depressing: dull, dirty, beige cinderblock walls, dim lights, musty smells, gated windows, tattered shades, filthy rugs, mouse droppings everywhere, and I thought ……

what a lovely place to enlighten the young minds of the future...
